Nagorno-Karabakh sets up fund for development of pre-border Talish village (+video)
The village of Talish, Martakert District of Nagorno-Karabakh, has set up a fund for the development and improvement of the village. They have already built a pumping station, which allowed irrigating more than one thousand hectares of land. Locals hope that the fund will improve the living conditions and solve the problem of drinking water.
The village of Talish is located in the north of the Martakert District of Nagorno-Karabakh, three kilometres off the contact line with Azerbaijan.
According to Vilen Petrosyan, the chairman of the above fund and the leader of the village community of Talish, the charity fund intended to stimulate the agriculture in the community was created in early 2014 by the Government of Nagorno-Karabakh. The first and so far the only donation into the fund was made by the Government; however, the initiators hope for participation of businessmen living in Nagorno-Karabakh and abroad.
The Prime Minister Ara Arutyunyan has noted that "the village of Talish is strategically significant; therefore, the Government will continue helping it, while the irrigation of land plots should lead to improved socio-economic conditions of the village."
