In Dagestan, advocate Sapiyat Magomedova claims her client Magomed Aliev, suspected of robbery, faces pressure to waive her services

In Dagestan, Magomed Aliev, who is suspected of act of robbery, is subjected to physical pressure, and warders of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) are forcing him to waive his advocate. This was stated by his advocate Sapiyat Magomedova. The administration of the Makhachkala SIZO No. 1 refuses to comment on the situation.

Magomed Aliev is accused of the act of robbery committed by an organized grouping. According to investigators, at night on January 11, in the village of Akusha, he together with two other men entered the house and grounds belonging to a 63-year-old woman engaged in bringing pension payments to local residents. The men threatened her with a weapon, tied her and her husband and her grandson, who were in the house, and then stole 1.6 million roubles.

On March 28, Magomed Aliev filed a complaint to the Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for Dagestan. In his complaint, the detainee has stated that on March 17, he was beaten in the Makhachkala SIZO.

On June 19, when the advocate again came to the Makhachkala SIZO, the warders refused to accompany the detainee to the meeting with the advocate and stated that Magomed Aliev had waived the services of advocate Sapiyat Magomedova.

"I ask you to respond to the pressure on me. I do not waive the services of advocate S.A. Magomedova," stated the text of one of the complaints filed by Magomed Aliev to the Prosecutor of Dagestan. In his other complaint addressed to the head of the administration of the Makhachkala SIZO No. 1, Magomed Aliev writes that the warders threaten to transfer him to an isolation ward unless he waives the services of advocate Sapiyat Magomedova.
