South Ossetia declares "day of silence"

South Ossetia has finished the pre-election campaign for parliamentary elections. The day of June 7 has been declared a "day of silence" throughout the republic. Candidates for deputy in the parliament of the sixth convocation have stopped meeting with voters.

"In the parliament, our party will 'push on' laws to guarantee social protection of the population, create new jobs, improve health care level, and contribute to fight against corruption," members of the "People's Party" have specified major programme directions in their interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Our goal is to revive the economy and develop democratic norms. One of the major directions of our programme includes development of agricultural sector and achievement of qualitatively new level of life," claims the programme of the "Rodina" Party.

Vyacheslav Gobozov, the leader of the "Fydybasta" Party, speaks of the necessity to support domestic producers and form the Constitutional Court.

Anatoly Bibilov, the leader of the "United Ossetia" Party, has mentioned the need to make specific steps regarding rapprochement with Russia.

According to a member of the Central Election Commission (CEC), no violations have been recorded during the pre-election campaign. Meanwhile, residents of the republic, who are not members of any of the political parties, often express their negative attitude towards the pre-election campaign and say they do not trust the authorities.

The previous elections of deputies of the Parliament of South Ossetia were held on May 21, 2009. At that elections, members of the Communists Party, the "Unity" Party, and the "People's Party" Party got seats in the Parliament.
