Ataev, detained in Makhachkala, was exposed to illegal methods of investigation, his advocate asserts

The advocate of Muslim Ataev, a resident of the village of Tarki, who was detained on May 28, has managed to meet his client in the Kirov ROVD (District Interior Division) of Makhachkala, after which the lawyer stated that the detainee had been exposed to illegal methods of investigation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 28 relatives of Muslim Ataev, a missing 31-year-old Tarki villager, turned to the Dagestani Regional Public Organization (DRPO) "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy) asking to help to find his whereabouts.

Selim Magomedov, a lawyer of the Dagestani Bar Association "Kavkaz", who is representing Muslim Ataev's interests, managed to establish that his client was kept at the Kirov ROVD of Makhachkala, but could not meet him on the day of detention.

Selim Magomedov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that today, after his complaint to the Public Prosecutor of Makhachkala about his no admission to his client, he was let into the above ROVD, where Muslim Ataev is kept since May 28.

"Ataev is suspected of illegal possession of weapons and explosives, since at his detention a TNT block was allegedly found on him. Muslim asserts that the block was planted on him. No official charges have been moved against him so far," said the lawyer.

Selim Magomedov has also stated that illegal methods had been applied to the detainee; in particular, Ataev was beaten up. Today, the lawyer filed complaints to the local MIA and Prosecutor's Office about the actions of the employees of the Kirov ROVD.
