European experts: Armenian draft law on meetings conflicts with fundamental human rights

Experts of the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have found the draft law on meetings prepared by the Armenian parliament to be not corresponding with international standards. It was announced at the round table on the draft law arranged by the OSCE Office in Yerevan.

Natalia Vutova, representative of the Council of Europe Secretary General in Armenia, said that the draft law conflicted with the European Convention on Human Rights and a number of other international documents. "This law can lead to restrictions on freedom of assembly as well as freedom of speech," Ms Vutova added.
