The death toll includes four suspected members of the armed underground – two in the Stavropol Territory, one in Dagestan and Chechnya each, and one civilian from Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

Special and counterterrorist operations

At night on April 28, law enforcers conducted a special operation some 5-6 kilometres off the village of Irgakly, Stepnovsk District of the Stavropol Territory. At about 4 a.m., in the wooded area in the territory of the Irgakly Reserve, law enforcers tried to detain a suspicious VAZ-2107 car with three armed men inside; however, they opened fire. During the shootout two of them were killed, and one managed to run away. One of the policemen was contused. While inspecting the car, policemen found an IED in the trunk and automatic firearms. Both casualties of the armed clash with policemen in the Stepnovsk District of the Stavropol Territory were identified as residents of Dagestan Nizam Asaliev and Gusein Magomedov. Relatives of both of them had stated that they disappeared on April 26.

On April 29, the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. In the outskirt of the village of Ullubiyaul, where houses were inspected within the CTO, a suspected militant was found hiding in a house basement. He tried to throw a grenade at the power agents, but could not throw it far enough; it exploded and killed him. The victim was preliminarily identified as Mukhtar Djamalov, born in 1978. According to law enforcers, he was a member of the so-called "Kadar" grouping.

Attacks on civilians

He drove out of the dairy farm in the village of Stalskoye, but did not reach his home; and in the morning on April 27 his car with his body was found near the village of Shushanovka.
