Member of "Patriots of Circassia" asks General Prosecutor to control investigation into detention of Circassian activists

On April 30, Adnan Khuade, a member of the international movement "Patriots of Circassia", appealed to General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika with a request to control the investigation into the circumstances relating to the detention of Circassian activists on December 13, 2013.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on the instruction of the regional department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), about ten Circassian and Abazin activists from Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Karachay-Cherkessia were forcibly brought to Krasnodar. Their apartments were searched. The activists were handed resolutions stating law enforcers suspected that the activists could possibly hide in their apartments a man with the surname of Chernyshev, who was involved in an armed underground and who was put on the wanted list. On December 14, the detainees were released.

According to Adnan Khuade, his rights have been grossly and deliberately violated during the operation, and the whole complex of offenses against the activists is connected with the fact that "Chernyshev, an international terrorist, is fictitious person." Adnan Khuade suggests that his detention was related to the statements against the venue of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

"Till present, we have not received any clear answers to our appeal of December 14, 2013. We got an interim response stating that our appeal had been forwarded to the republican Prosecutor's Office. We are going to send a new request concerning the case," stated Valery Khatazhukov, the leader of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR).
