Armenian experts: Turkish Prime Minister's condolences imitate recognition of Armenian Genocide

After 99 years passed since the Genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, Turkey still "eschews an important step in the recognition of historical truth." The official Ankara's position has nothing in common with the reality, and Armenia should continue to seek recognition of the genocide by the international community. This opinion was expressed by Armenian experts questioned by the "Caucasian Knot".

On April 24, Armenia held mass mourning actions to mark the Commemoration Day and to pay tribute to the memory of victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. Starting from the morning, people came to the Armenian Genocide memorial complex "Tsitsernakaberd" to lay flowers and to pay tribute to the memory of the victims.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 23, at the parliamentary session, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the first time expressed his condolences "to grandchildren of Armenians killed in the events of the early 20th century."

In the world, most countries did not recognize the Armenian Genocide officially. The authorities of the Republic of Turkey actively deny the fact of genocide, and the authorities of Azerbaijan support them.

Aik Demoyan, Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, believes the Recep Tayyip Erdogan's statement is "an important step, but not in the direction of historical truth, although that would contribute to reconciliation between the Armenian and Turkish peoples."

It should be noted that on April 24, Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a new statement claiming that "without solution of the Karabakh conflict, Armenia's relations with Turkey cannot be normalized," the agency "SalamNews" reports.
