At trial, "Nida" activists claim charges are groundless
In Baku, at the trial on the "Nida" case, two defendants Uzeir Mamedli and Zaur Gurbanly have claimed groundlessness of charges against the defendants involved in the case, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
On March 7, 2013, Bakhtiyar Guliev, Shakhin Novruzlu, and Mamed Azizov, activists of the movement "Nida", were detained on suspicion of incitement to violence prior to the protest action against non-combat losses in the army. On March 14, Rashad Gasanov, one of the leaders of the movement "Nida", on March 30 Uzeir Mamedli and Rashadat Akhundov, two members of the Board of the movement "Nida", and on April 1 Zaur Gurbanly, an activist of the organization, were detained.
According to Uzeir Mamedli, who spoke at the court hearing held on April 3, all charges against him are based only on the testimony of defendant Mamed Azizov, who gave it in the first days after his detention "under torture", and on the testimony of some Anar Abbasov, who "signed the text written by investigators."
In his turn, Zaur Gurbanly has pointed out that the charge fails to specify what kind of a criminal act was committed by him. He has claimed the absence of "any, even slanderous, fabricated evidence" against him and against Uzeir Mamedli and Rashadat Akhundov.
