Session at Sochi City Council states aggravation of ecological problems

According to participants of the City Council meeting, to solve ecological problems, Sochi needs to commission treatment plants, take appropriate measures to clean coastal waters, attract professionals, and conduct explanatory work among the population, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

On March 19, the meeting on the ecological status of the resort city was held. It was attended by about 20 officials of various agencies and institutions responsible for the ecological condition of the resort city, MPs, ecologists, and members of public organizations.

Let us remind you that earlier, ecologists and members of opposition parties in Sochi stated that sewage waters are poured into the sea without cleaning treatment, since the Bzugu treatment plants do not work at full capacity. A representative of the investor for the construction project of Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Evraziysky" has reported that the second stage of the Bzugu treatment plants will be commissioned in late 2014.

At the meeting, the participants have also mentioned the need to fine violators of environmental laws who conduct illegal construction in the city and connect sewage runoff to rainfall discharge.
