NBC: 40,000 video clips illegal Olympic content blocked on the Internet

During the Winter Olympics in Sochi, video services blocked about 40,000 clips posted on the Internet and containing illegal content about the 2014 Games, said the officials of the US broadcaster NBC. Also, about 5000 illegal live broadcasts from the Olympics were suppressed.

According to the NBC, which had exclusive rights to broadcast the Olympics in the United States, users tried to post about half of illegal clips on the "YouTube" portal. A significant number of them were stopped by the filter of the service, the rest were removed immediately after placement.

Some 20,000 video clips were blocked by other popular services; among them, the leadership belongs to the Russian social network "VKontakte" and the French video hosting "Dailymotion", the ITAR-TASS reports referring to the NBC.

During the Olympics, the "Caucasian Knot" posted exclusively its own video materials about the events related to the Winter Games in Sochi.

On February 23, a few hours before the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, activists Olga Noskovets and David Khakim were detained, which was reported by the video blog of the "Caucasian Knot".

Also during the 2014 Olympics, the video blog of the "Caucasian Knot" returned back to the fate of the 75-year-old resident of Sochi Lydia Lepsveridze, who was detained by police on October 12, 2013, when she held her picket near the summer residence of Russian President named "Bocharov Ruchei".
