Bastrykin: in 2013, Russia faced 31 terror act, the worst situation is in Northern Caucasus

Last year, a total of 31 terror acts were registered in the Russian Federation; the most difficult situation is in Northern Caucasus, used by hostile forces from abroad as a "destabilization detonator," said Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

"Terror acts are properly designed and pre-planned actions, prepared by many people. We are seeing destructive anti-Russian activities, the bridgehead of which is abroad," said the head of the ICRF. At the same time, according to his story, the ICRF has made progress, in cooperation with other power agencies, in the fight against terrorism in Northern Caucasus, by bringing 200 out of 300 criminal cases opened within the year to the court, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Chronicle of Terror Acts", in the period from January 1 to December 30, 2013, the territory of the Southern and North-Caucasian Federal Districts (SFD and NCFD) was struck by 33 explosions, which can be attributed to manifestations of terrorism; nine of them were committed by suicide bombers.

Three terror acts with the greatest number of casualties occurred in Volgograd – two explosions were committed on December 29 and 30, 2013, killing, together with two suicide bombers, 36 people. According to the Russian National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC), the terror acts were committed by Asker Samedov and Suleiman Magomedov, militants from the "Buynaksk" grouping.
