In Azerbaijan, in 22nd anniversary of Khodjaly tragedy, witnesses speak of civil victims of events

Azerbaijan commemorates the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy in the town of Khodjaly in Nagorno-Karabakh, which is considered one of the most tragic pages in the history of the state. The country holds mourning ceremonies. Armenia states that Azerbaijan is trying to falsify history.

In Baku, at the international conference dedicated to the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy in Khodjaly, Khanlar Veliev, Military Prosecutor of Azerbaijan, said that the investigation conducted by his agency, revealed involvement of 39 persons in crimes committed in Khodjaly. All these persons are put on the wanted list on charges of genocide.

According to Ilham Aliev, President of Azerbaijan, "political and legal responsibility for the tragedy lies directly on the former and current leaders of Armenia" and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Armenia rejects all the accusations of the Azerbaijani side in connection with the events in Khodjaly and calls them a provocation.

Levon Melik-Shakhnazaryan, an Armenian political scientist, believes that Azerbaijan spreads disinformation about the Khodjaly events. The scientists emphasizes that he himself witnessed the events and claims that the Armenian side let all the inhabitants of Khodjaly go through a passage specially left for them.
