On February 10-16, 10 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from February 10 to February 16, 2014, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus affected at least 10 people, nine of them were killed and one was wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes eight suspected members of the armed underground and one civilian – all of them in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

Late in the evening on February 11, near the village of Khutor, Khasavyurt District, in the course of checking their operative information, power agents found the trail of Sheikh-Akhmed Baisuev, a native of Chechnya and a leader of a militants' grouping, also known as "Amir of Gudermes". He was offered to surrender, but refused and opened fire. In a shootout, he was killed.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On February 12, in the village of Bammatyurt, Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, law enforcers blocked a private house, in which militants from the "Kizilyurt" terrorist grouping were hiding. According to law enforcers, they were offered to surrender, but they refused, opened fire and threw grenades. During the shootout, three suspected militants were killed and later identified as Askhab Askhabov and Eldar Dudaev, residents of the Kizilyurt District, and Khizri Naibov, a native of Bammatyurt.

On February 13, at 5:00 a.m., the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the villages of Gurik and Djuldjnif, Tabasaran District of Dagestan. On February 14, the CTO regime was lifted.

On February 14, at 1:15 p.m. Moscow time, the CTO regime was introduced in the village of Novogagatli, Khasavyurt District of Dagestan. Power agents blocked a private house in the outskirt of the village. During the negotiations, elderly man and a woman went out of the house. The four men, remaining inside, including the son of the elderly people, refused to surrender and opened fire. They all were killed by response fire.

On February 14, at 6:00 p.m., the republic's operational headquarters introduced the CTO regime in the Kumtorkalin and Karabudakhkent Districts of Dagestan with the aim to search for IAF members there.

On February 15, at 7:00 a.m., the CTO regime was introduced in the Khasavyurt and Kizilyurt Districts of Dagestan; besides, this special regime is in force in the administrative centre of the Kizilyurt District – the city of Kizilyurt.

Attacks on civilians

On February 11, at about 8:30 p.m., in Makhachkala, unidentified killers shot dead a 14-year-old boy, the son of the owner of the fuelling station, who was murdered earlier – in July 2013. The teenager was on the way to his grandmother, when a white Lada-Priora car with tinted windows drove up to him. Fire was opened at him from inside the car. The teen died on the spot. According to investigators, his relatives had received threats and demands to pay a large sum of money from members of illegal armed formations (IAFs).

Detentions

On February 12, at about 8:00 a.m., the house of Shamsudin Magomedov, who lives in the village of Shamkhal near Makhachkala, was searched by policemen of the Kirov ROVD (District Interior Division) of Makhachkala. During the search, according to power agents, they found illegal items. After the search, Shamsudin Magomedov, and his sons Islam and Ibrakhim Magomedov were detained by law enforcers. On the same day, Oka Magomedov, a nephew of Shamsudin Magomedov, was also detained. On February 12, Ibrakhim and Islam were released, but the whereabouts of Oka and Shamsudin Magomedov is still unidentified.
