KBR: Atazhukino villagers demand to liquidate defects in new houses

Residents of the village of Atazhukino, Baksan District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) claim that they were moved into houses built with gross violations of building rules and technologies.

The authorities moved residents into new houses from those classified as dilapidated. Soon after moving in, people found out that all the walls are damp, covered with mould, fungi and deep cracks; and plaster falls down from the ceiling and walls.

"I eagerly moved in here, but look at what's going on now: the walls are with cracks, linoleum was laid onto uneven surface; there's awful dampness," Sonia Soblirova, a retired teacher, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

A pensioner Dusya Skliarenko said that the walls and ceiling in her new apartment are covered with fungi. She said that she had appealed to the district authorities and asked them to carry out repairs of her apartment, but received a refusal.

The position of the tenants was supported by the prosecutor's office, which demanded from the district authorities to eliminate the violations of the current legislation.
