In the course of the armed conflict in North Caucasus, during the week from January 27 to February 2, 2014, at least seven people suffered: five of them were killed and two wounded. These are the results of the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes four suspected members of the armed underground in Kabardino-Balkaria, and one power agent in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On January 26, near the village of Gemetyube of the Babayurt District of Dagestan, unidentified attackers shelled an outfit of road patrol. As a result, one policeman was killed and another one was wounded. The latter policeman was taken to hospital; and, according to doctors, his life is out of danger. The attackers fled in the Priora car, which had been hijacked on January 22 in the village of Bammatyurt.

Special operations and CTOs

On January 29, at 4:00 a.m., the Botlikh District of Dagestan was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. An operative data about several possible locations of members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) was checked. Restrictions were imposed on the entry and exit of motor vehicles; and all the cars were inspected.

On January 31, starting from 8:30 a.m., the CTO regime was introduced within the administrative boundaries of the city of Baksan in Kabardino-Balkaria. Power agents blocked a house in Makhov Street, in which, according to their data, militants were hiding. One special agent was wounded in the shooting; and the CTO regime was lifted at 4:00 p.m.

Detentions

In the afternoon on January 28, during the operative-search activities in Kabardino-Balkaria, the police confiscated ammunition and drugs from a resident of Nalchik. They found a magazine with eight 7.62 mm cartridges for a TT pistol and 1.23 grams of heroin.

On January 29, brothers Magomednabi and Tagir Batirov were detained in Dagestan; they are suspected of helping the last year's suicide bombers to get to Volgograd.
