Trial on Anna Politkovskaya's murder postponed till January 20

Consideration on the merits of the case on the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, an observer of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" has been postponed till January 20, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The previous panel of jurors in the case of the Anna Politkovskaya's murder was disbanded on November 14, 2013, after a number of jurors left it. On January 14, 2014, the Moscow City Court formed a new panel of jurors.

At the procedure for selection of jurors held on January 14, Makhmudov asked the Court to withdraw advocate Furmanov, who earlier defended him, from his defence.

The today's court session of the Moscow City Court has started with the defendant Rustam Makhmudov' challenge to his new assigned advocate Vladimir Stepanov, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Judge Pavel Melekhin has granted the motion and postponed the trial till January 20 and thus provided the new advocate with time to examine the materials of the case.
