Five arrested young men stop hunger strike in Baku

The five young activists arrested for taking part in the December 29 unsanctioned protest in Baku have stopped their hunger strike at the insistence of their parents, said Tural Abbasly, a board member of the "Musavat" Party. According to his story, the health condition of the arrested Orkhan Eyubzade became worse.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 29 about 50 young people gathered in central Baku to protest against incitement to suicide of Zaur Gasanov, who died from burns resulting from self-immolation. However, the police dispersed the action and detained its most active participants. On December 29 one of the activists Samir Poladov was sentenced to 15 days of administrative arrest on charges of disobeying police. On December 30, five other activists were sentenced to administrative arrests from 15 to 18 days.

Then, five activists, kept in Baku, went on hunger strike in protest against torture and inhuman treatment.

On January 1, the young people, persuaded by their parents, stopped their hunger strike, as Tural Abbasly, a board member of the "Musavat" Party, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to his story, the arrested activists are kept in poor conditions.

He addressed Vugar Alekperov, a division head of the national Ombudsman's office, inviting him to visit the insulation facility.

Tural Abbasly also reported about preparation of appeal complaints against the arrest of the young people.
