Grigory Rudoy: "UGMK-Holding" creates independent commission to monitor ecological situation in Khopyor Region

To monitor the ecological situation in Khopyor Region, an independent commission of experts, which included scientists and experts from several cities of Russia, was created. This was reported by Grigory Rudoy, Mining Director of the Limited Liability Company (LLC) "UGMK-Holding" engaged in nickel mining.

In May 2012, the LLC "Mednogorsk Copper-Sulphur Industrial Complex", which is a part of the LLC "UGMK-Holding", won the tender for mining nickel in the Novokhopyorsk District of the Voronezh Region. This gave rise to mass protests of local residents.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 22, 2013, a mass protest action was held in the Novokhopyorsk District. After the rally, the unidentified persons set boring on fire the towers of the nickel-mining company.

"We believe that a certain group of provocateurs, who concentrated on this object, was aimed at creating a certain image for themselves. However, finally, we found an effective dialogue, and the extremists retreated. They lost the support of the population, since at present, people are ready to participate in the work that we do," Grigory Rudoy has noted at the press conference held in Volgograd on December 23.

He has emphasized that at all stages, the company's activities will be accompanied by continuous monitoring of the environment to be provided by a team of scientists and ecologists from the Voronezh Region and from the Saint Petersburg and MoscowUniversities.
