Vitaly Mutko: in case of failure at Olympic Games by my fault, I will resign

Vitaly Mutko, the head of the Russian Ministry of Sports, has announced that he will resign in case of poor performance of the Russian national team at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi by his fault. However, the Minister has clarified that when talking about failure, he implies not poor athletic performance, but problems with training of the athletes, participating in the Olympic Games.

Vitaly Mutko made his loud statement in air of the Radio Station "Ekho Moskvy" (Echo of Moscow) on December 25. According to the Minister of Sports, the most important thing is to define what should be understood as failure.

"The question is what we do mean when talking about failure. If we personalize responsibility and if I see that the failure occurs because of my poor work, I will resign. I will do it quietly," the radio station's official website quotes Vitaly Mutko as saying.

According to the Minister, during the preparation for the Olympic Games in Sochi, he is in charge of organizational issues, so the athletic achievements of the Russian Olympians are not in question.

"The failure occurs if we fail to solve some problems during the preparation for the Olympic Games. What does my responsibility include? I am responsible for the formation of teams and coaches, for the creation of appropriate conditions, for the supply of equipment," Vitaly Mutko has said.
