Reznik's defence challenges his verdict at Rostov court

The advocates of the journalist Sergey Reznik, who was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for false denunciation, bribery and insulting a power official, have filed a complaint against the decision of the Pervomaiskiy District Court of Rostov-on-Don, Yury Kastrubin, one of the advocates, said on December 20. Another appeal is prepared by the convict himself.

According to Yury Kastrubin, Reznik is not covered by the amnesty announced on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution, as it applies to persons convicted for minor crimes.

"As to Sergey Reznik, he was found guilty of two crimes, regarded as grave ones, namely, under Part 3, Article 306 "knowingly false denunciation", and Point "b", Part 2, Article 204" commercial bribery", – these are grave crimes. Therefore, there's no amnesty for Reznik," said Kastrubin.

Let us remind you that Reznik has refused to plead guilty, saying that his oppositional journalistic activities had caused his prosecution.
