Rinat Mukhametov: decision to ban Koran translation cancelled due to activeness of Muslim community

The activeness of the Muslim community has played a significant role in the fact that the Krasnodar Regional Court has cancelled the earlier decision to ban the translation of the Koran made by Elmir Guliev. This was stated by the Candidate of Political Science Rinat Mukhametov, Deputy Director of the Foundation for the Support of Humanitarian Initiatives "Altair". The ban decision earlier made by the District Court was based on an unjustified scientific conclusion of some experts, said the lawyer Murad Musaev, who represented Elmir Guliev's interests at the court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 17, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk granted a claim filed by the Novorossiysk Transport Prosecutor's Office and recognized the book "Semantic Translation of Holy Koran into Russian", written by Elmir Guliev, a well-known Azerbaijani religious philosopher, as an extremist material. On December 17, the Krasnodar Regional Court cancelled the decision of the above District Court.

According to Rinat Mukhametov, it may appear that it is not the end of the case, and that the cancellation of the ban may be challenged.

Murad Musaev has claimed that the above Elmir Guliev's book was not even studied by the Oktyabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk.

Besides, in the lawyer's opinion, the analysis of several ayats (verses) was performed out of the context, with a complete disregard for their real meaning and history of origin.

The ban of the Koran translation could lead to the ban of the Koran in its original language. This was stated by advocate Ruslan Bartcho, an advocate from the Adyg Republic's Bar who represented the interests of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Adygea and the Krasnodar Territory.
