Krasnodar Regional Court cancels decision to ban Koran translation

The Krasnodar Regional Court has cancelled the decision of the Oktiabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk to recognize the book "Semantic Translation of Holy Koran into Russian" written by Elmir Guliev, a well-known Azerbaijani religious philosopher, as an extremist one. This was reported by advocate Ravil Tugushev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 17, the above District Court granted a claim filed by the Novorossiysk Transport Prosecutor's Office and recognized the above book as an extremist material. The book was in one of the mail parcels and attracted the attention of law enforcers. The court's decision was challenged.

The advocate has explained that earlier four appeals had been filed against the decision of the Oktiabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk: by himself, by advocate Murad Musaev, who presented at the trial the interests of Elmir Guliev, who had translated the Koran, by Askarbiy Kardanov, the Mufti of Adygea and the Krasnodar Territory, and by a group of Muslim from the Saratov Region.

"At the trial, we were told that the examination was made incorrectly, by a man, who lacks special knowledge. Besides, we were told that the Koran is a historical heritage and cannot be an extremist material. The court took our arguments into account," said Ravil Tugushev.
