During week of December 2-8, 2013, 17 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of December 2-8, 2013, at least 17 persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 12 persons were killed, and 5 persons were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes two law enforcers one in Dagestan and one in Chechnya, one civilian in Dagestan, and nine suspected members of the armed underground, including five in Dagestan, and four in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Attacks on law enforcers

On December 2, in Gogol Street in Khasavyurt, unidentified persons shelled policeman Khabib Akhkubekov, an officer from the criminal investigation department of the local GOVD (City Interior Division). He died from the wounds. The victim was a witness in the case of the Alisultan Amiraliev's murder and was wounded during an attack on him. This was reported by advocate Sapiyat Magomedova.

On December 4, in the village of Sadovoe of the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, the police checked selected houses. A police squad was shelled from one of the houses. No one suffered. Law enforcers blocked the building; however, an unidentified person, who was in the house, broke out the cordon and fled. According to law enforcers, he was wounded.

Special operations and CTOs

On December 5, during the search for militants, who shelled the police squad in the village of Sadovoe, an armed clash occurred. Four kilometres north of the village of Novy Kostek of the Khasavyurt District, law enforcers found a dugout. When special fighters wanted to check it, they were shelled by the people who were hiding in the dugout. FSB agents and staff members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) blocked the area. According to law enforcers, five suspected militants were killed during the special operation. No law enforcers suffered.

Starting from 3:15 p.m. of December 5, a regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced in the village of Zhankhoteko in the Baksan District of Kabardino-Balkaria. A grouping of suspected militants was blocked in one of the houses of the village. They opened fire in response to the offer to surrender. During the special operation, four suspected militants were killed, and a person, who, according to law enforcers, was their accomplice, was detained. During the special operation, two special fighters got minor wounds. No civilians suffered.

Bombings and terror acts

On December 3, in Khasavyurt, at the intersection of Pravdy and Beibulatov Streets, local residents found an explosive device with power of 10 kg of TNT equivalent. It was defused on the spot by combat engineers from the Russian FSB for Dagestan.

On December 3, during the special operation, conducted in a forest area near the village of Shalazhi of the Urus-Martan District of Chechnya, two policemen blew up a mine. One of them died.

On December 4, in the city of Khasavyurt, an explosive device was found near the gate of a private house. The bomb was made of a 10-litre galvanized bucket with explosive mixture of 8 kg, alarm block and an electric detonator inside it. Combat engineers from the Russian FSB for Dagestan destroyed the explosive device on the spot.

On December 5, in Nakhimov Street in Makhachkala, an unidentified person cut the film, which replaced a missing glass in a car, and threw an F-1 ball grenade into passenger compartment of a VAZ-2109 car. The grenade was neutralized by combat engineers from the OMON (riot police). Nobody was hurt.

Attacks on civilians

On December 3, on the outskirts of the village of Novy Frig of the Khivy District located in the territory of the Derbent District, a local resident, who worked as a private taxi driver, was attacked by unidentified persons and wounded from a traumatic weapon. The attackers stole his VAZ-217010 Lada Priora car.

On December 7, Khalid Kebedov, the head of the Dagestani village of Teletl of the Shamil District of Dagestan was found murdered in his home. Officials from the Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for Dagestan do not rule the involvement of members of subversive and terrorist groupings.
