MIA special troops search for militants in south-west of Chechnya

For the second day already, a special operation to search for members of the armed underground is on in the vicinity of the village of Shalazhi, Urus-Martan District, in the foothill area of Chechnya; however, with no results.

Let us remind you that on December 3, in a wooded area near the village, a policeman died and another one was wounded by a mine explosion. After that, the special operation intensified.

"The combing of the wooded area is underway; and ambushes are set up. Local policemen and special units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) are involved in the operation", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt from a source from the republic's power bodies.

Searches are conducted in view of the fact that in such cases militants prefer to split into small groups and leave the dangerous area in different directions.

The Chechen MIA has announced that a criminal case had been opened on the fact of the above policemen's death and wound under Part 1, Article 222, and Article 317 (trafficking in arms, ammunition and explosives, and assault on law enforcer's life) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
