Atanesyan: meeting of Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan gives chances to resume negotiations

The meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents that took place in Vienna is a chance to continue the negotiation process. Such meetings contribute to peace and stability in the region, politicians and political scientists of Nagorno-Karabakh believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the meeting of Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliev on June 12 in Salzburg did not take place; however, but on November 4, the OSCE Minsk Group managed to schedule the meeting for November 19. The Presidents agreed to intensify negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.

"It's difficult to judge about real results, as we have quite scanty information about the meeting. But in any case, it seems that there is a chance of resuming the talks on the basis of well-known principles," Vagram Atanesyan, the Chairman of the Commission of Foreign Relations of the Parliament of Nagorno-Karabakh, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In their turn, Armenian political analysts and experts believe that the meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in itself is a positive fact, but it is hard to expect any significant changes in the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Their Azerbaijani counterparts assert that the talks in Vienna in fact ended in a failure, because of the Azerbaijan's commitment to the 10 new settlement principles put forward by Baku. Armenia, however, insisted on the continuation of the dialogue initiated by the Presidents at their meeting in Kazan in June 2011, said Mubariz Akhmedoglu, a political analyst from Azerbaijan.
