Hijabs prohibited in VSU

The Volgograd State University (VSU) has adopted a document, which regulates the allowable high school dress code, where, along with banned shorts and short skirts, it was decided to introduce a separate ban on wearing headscarves (hijabs). This proposal was made by Taisia Yudina, the pro-rector for education and upbringing of the VSU. It is supported by regional officials.

One of the two activists who intended to seek a ban on wearing hijabs told the Volgograd portal V1.ru that they had made the decision under the influence of the terror act on October 21 in Volgograd, committed by the native of Dagestan Naida Asiyalova, who hid her face by means of a hijab.

Local officials and observers are ambiguous in their treatment of the adopted amendments to the allowable higher school dress code.

In particular, Roman Grebennikov, the first deputy chairman of the government of the Volgograd Region, believes that a ban on hijabs is a prerequisite for students in secular schools.

In his turn, Vitaly Arkov, a political analyst and the head of the expert-analytical network PolitRUS, who is quoted by the agency "Islam-Today", believes that making such decisions at the level of one university is illegal.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported about arsons of Muslim worship houses in Volgograd after the above terror act. On October 23, the Union of Muslims of the Volgograd Region declared cases of aggression against Muslims registered after the terror act.

Last year, there was a scandal in the Stavropol Territory in connection with a prohibition imposed by administration of one of the schools for schoolgirls to come to classes in Muslim headscarves.
