Court in Moscow sanctions arrest of Astrakhan Mayor Mikhail Stolyarov

The Mayor of the city of Astrakhan Mikhail Stolyarov, who was detained at receiving a bribe of 10 million roubles, was arrested by the today's decision of the Basmanny Court of Moscow.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Astrakhan Mayor Mikhail Stolyarov was detained on November 13 at receiving a bribe from a businessman. After detention, Stolyarov was convoyed by plane from Astrakhan to Moscow.

Let us remind you that on November 14 the Governor of the Astrakhan Region Alexander Zhilkin said that Stolyarov had received repeated warnings in relation to corruption. "I said more than once to Mayor Stolyarov: "There are complaint against you and your team that you are doing nasty things; and this will be followed by action," said Zhilkin.

Mikhail Stolyarov was elected to be Mayor of Astrakhan on March 4, 2012. According to official data, he won 60% of votes at the election. However, the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party refused to recognize the election outcomes, asserting that Oleg Shein, the nominee of the party, was the real winner.
