Ingush religious leaders decide to increase fine for bride abduction

The clergy of Ingushetia have proposed to toughen penalties for the grooms who abduct their brides. It was decided by the Islamic Conference held in the republic.

Religious leaders and the public have decided to increase the fine for abducting girls for marriage by the factor of 20 – up to 200,000 roubles. Besides, the groom's helpers will have to pay 100,000 roubles each, same as the elders, if they agree to take part in the abduction, and the owner of the house where the abducted bride will be brought, the RAPSI reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 26 three people were lost and one injured in a shootout started by local residents in Nazran. According to investigators, the conflict was triggered by bride abduction. The head of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov ordered the police to prevent escalation of conflict among the two well-known Ingush clans.
