Case of Makhach Gamzatov from Buynaksk sent to court

As reported by a source from the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office, the inquiry into the criminal case against a resident of Buynaksk Makhach Gamzatov, accused of aiding militants, is over; and the case was sent to the court. As stated by his brother, Makhach Gamzatov made his confession under pressure.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 12 relatives of Makhach Gamzatov said that he had been kidnapped by unidentified assailants in Makhachkala. On May 13, relatives were informed that Gamzatov had been detained by the police.

On May 15, Gamzatov was sentenced to custody; on the same day he was charged under Part 5, Article 33 (complicity in a crime), and Part 2, Article 208 (aiding to illegal armed formations), of the Russian Criminal Code. He faces up to five years in prison.

According to the above source, the defendant has pled guilty. However, Gadjimurad Gamzatov, Makhach's brother, insists that Makhach "had given his evidence during the investigation under pressure."
