In Chechnya, 64 children undergo surgeries within "Operation Smile"

A team of specialists in the field of plastic surgery of the organization "Operation Smile" have completed their work in Chechnya. Within a week, surgeons conducted 64 surgeries for children suffering from congenital maxillofacial abnormalities and burn injuries.

Within the project, it is planned to do surgeries for 70 children with maxillofacial abnormalities in various regions of the Caucasus.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, the surgeries were carried out at the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital in Grozny. The charitable event was organized by Khasan Baiev, a famous Chechen surgeon. Officials from the Ministry of Public Health have emphasized that it was already the fourth charitable event held in Grozny.

Musa M., a resident of Chechnya, has noted that the majority of children suffering from congenital maxillofacial abnormalities were from poor or large families.

"Plastic surgeries are very expensive, and not everyone can afford them. Children who grew up in wealthy families do not face such problems, since their parents can afford expensive surgeries; however, the rest of people have either to spend the rest of their life with those abnormalities or to hope for a miracle. And the project 'Operation Smile', when specialists do surgeries for the persons in need for free, is precisely such a miracle," said Kheda M., an activist of a local NGO.
