Magomedova: Dagestani investigators re-qualify the case on threats to lawyers

Investigators in Dagestan have decided to re-qualify the criminal case opened on the fact of threats addressed to the lawyers Magomedova and Suslanov, said the lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova.

Let us remind you that in early June the lawyers Sapiyat Magomedova and Musa Suslanov announced that they had received threats from unidentified persons who demanded from the lawyers to refuse presenting the interests of relatives of Gamzatov brothers killed in Kizlyar. The demands were accompanied by threats of physical execution.

The criminal case was opened on September 4 under the article "Threats or violent actions in connection with administration of justice or conduct of preliminary investigation, committed against a defender" (Part 2, Article 296 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

However, as Sapiyat Magomedova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, today she has learnt that the case had been re-qualified into another article of the Criminal Code – "Threat of death or grave health damage".

She disagrees with the investigators' decision, saying that "the case was just transferred to a less grave category."
