Current election of head of Ingushetia is uncontested, experts say

The Kremlin approves the course of the head of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov; therefore, the upcoming election will be no surprise, Akhmed Yarlykapov, a scientific collaborator of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Let us remind you that on August 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin brought to the consideration of the People's Assembly of Ingushetia the candidacies of Yunus-Bek Evkurov, Uruskhan Evloev and Magomed Tatriev for election to the post of the head of the republic.

"The incumbent leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov is suitable for the federal centre; and Kremlin authorities are not going to replace him," said Akhmed Yarlykapov.

According to his version, the other two candidates brought by Vladimir Putin to the People's Assembly are purely technical in nature. Yarlykapov believes that, although "Yunus-Bek Evkurov is not the worst option for Ingushetia," the election of the leader by the parliament in this subject of the Russian Federation "cannot be treated as democratic."

Ruslan Martagov, a political analyst and a consultant of the Fund "Antiterror", believes that the forthcoming election is "the advent into power of Mr Evkurov."

"The so-called election in Ingushetia indicates only that the centre understands how unpopular its protégé is among the people. Otherwise, Yunus-Bek Evkurov would never win the election. Only in this situation he has his chance to once again become the head of the Republic of Ingushetia; not to win the election, but namely come into power," said the analyst.

He believes that "imposition of the person unpopular among the majority of the Ingush people," is fraught with complications of the already complicated political situation.
