Russian Embassy in Baku: relative of FLNCA head, detained in Azerbaijan, has advocate
The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Azerbaijan has confirmed the information about the arrest by law enforcement bodies of this country of a citizen of the Russian Federation Djavid Babaev.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the information released by the Council of the Federal Lezgin National-Cultural Autonomy (FLNCA), law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan detained Russian citizens Djavid Babaev, the head of the company for manufacture of petroleum machinery, and Tariel Sarkarov, one of the founders of the Moscow Regional Lezgin National-Cultural Autonomy. They are relatives of the head of the FLNCA Arif Kerimov and the chairman of the executive committee of the Autonomy Amil Sarkarov. Also, a citizen of Azerbaijan Eldar Mamedov, brother of Arif Kerimov's wife, was detained.
"On August 12, the advocate hired by Babaev was admitted to meet him. The Embassy is in close contact with the competent authorities of Azerbaijan and the advocate," said a source from the Russian Embassy.
The spokesman of the FLNCA has also noted that in relation to Tariel Sarkarov, detained on August 9, the decision is still pending.
Earlier, the Council of the FLNCA demanded from the official bodies of Azerbaijan to explain the reasons for detention of the Russian citizens and their prompt release.
Let us note here that Djavid Babaev was detained in Baku, where he came to visit his parents. Tariel Sarkarov was detained in the village of Kamervan, Kabalin District of Azerbaijan, where he came with his mother to visit his father's grave.
