Defence of Karachaevsk Mayor challenges decision of his arrest

Today, the defence of the Mayor of Karachaevsk sent to the Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia appeals against the decision of the Cherkessk City Court to arrest Soltan Semenov for 2 months and temporary suspend him from office.

Let us remind you that on August 8, investigators made a decision to detain Soltan Semenov who was put on the federal wanted list and who himself came for questioning. Soltan Semenov did not plead guilty.

Andrei Ostroukhov, the advocate of the Mayor of Karachaevsk, believes that the decisions of the Cherkessk City Court are not justified.

Earlier, residents of the Karachai urban district sent appeals to the Cherkessk City Court with a request not to take Soltan Semenov in custody.

"The mother of Soltan Semenov is sick. Besides, he has an elderly father of already 90 years old. As far as we know, the mayor himself was diagnosed with a serious heart disease. Karachaevsk residents treat the decision of the Cherkessk City Court to take the Mayor in custody as extremely cruel and humiliating," said Baimurza Uzdenov, a member of the Council of Elders of Karachaevsk.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February, the investigating authorities of Karachay-Cherkessia instituted the criminal case against Soltan Semenov on the fact of the misuse of budget funds. On June 28, it was reported that the investigating authorities of Karachay-Cherkessia put Soltan Semenov on the wanted list.
