Fire in "Grozny-City" was caused by builder's wrongdoing, says Prosecutor's Office
The Chechen Prosecutor's Office has sent to the court the case opened after the fire that occurred in April in "Grozny-City". The charge is brought against Magomed-Amin Amirov, a 47-year-old mechanic of the "UK Genstroy".
Amirov is charged under "High-scale damage to one's property because of careless fire handling" (Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), according to the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic.
According to investigators, on the day of the fire Amirov was on the fourth floor of the burned-down building "for the reasons not connected with his work."
The mechanic "wilfully, showing criminal negligence and being aware of the fire features of the source he used – a gas burner – was gluing the joints of the soft roofing material by heating them with fire, as a result of which a cardboard outside packing of an conditioner unit caught fire," which, according to the Prosecutor's Office, caused the fire in the high-rise building.
The maximum penalty for Amirov is a year in prison or up to two years of corrective works. The defendant is under recognizance not to leave, the official website of the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya has reported today.
