Sochi residents claim losses due to power outage

Residents of the city of Sochi have complained that due to power outage for almost 24 hours in the neighbourhood "Gagarinsky" they suffered material losses because of spoiled foodstuffs, medicines and broken electrical appliances. In her turn, Olesya Mitsenko from the press service of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Sochi Power Grids" urged residents to arm themselves with patience, since they are now switching over from old to new substations, which is aggravated by high energy consumption due to hot weather.

According to Alexei Baranov, the chair of the committee of No. 66 in Gagarin Street, "the issue of compensating material losses caused by the power grid to consumers is not settled. Consumers are not protected, while the Mayoralty takes no part in addressing the problem, letting things take their course. But our neighbourhood has critical infrastructure objects, such as bakery, water utility, ambulance, kindergartens and schools," he has stressed.

Let us remind you that the authorities and residents of Sochi are regularly talking about the problems of power supply of the Olympic capital. The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 5 residents of neighbourhoods Donskoy, Gagarinsky, Tsentralny and Novy complained about power supply interruptions.

Specialists from the "Kubanenergo" claim that recent frequent power outages in Sochi have been caused by actions of subcontractors engaged in construction of Olympic and commercial facilities.
