In Yerevan, protesters against increase of transport tariffs pass to Mayoralty cake with words "50 drams"

Today, in Yerevan, at the buildings of the government, the Mayoralty, the Conservatory of Music a series of protest actions were held with demands to cancel the decision of the Yerevan City Mayoralty to raise tariffs for public transport. Participants of the protest actions managed, with the help of David Sanasaryan, an oppositional MP at the Yerevan Council of Elders, to pass to the Mayor the cake with the words "50 drams". This was reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Let us remind you that the Yerevan Mayoralty has decided to raise tariffs for public transport starting from July 20. The average increase in fares reached 50%. Starting from, July 19, Yerevan hosts protest actions.

On July 25, about 100 persons gathered at the building of the Armenian government. They demanded to cancel the decision of the Yerevan City Mayoralty. Simultaneously with the action, a seating picket was held at the building of the Armenian government.

David Sanasaryan, a member of the Council of Elders of the oppositional block "Hello, Yerevan", has told the participants of the protest actions that at present, the oppositional block puts forward the initiative to collect signatures to convene an extraordinary session of the Council of Elders with the main purpose to demand to cancel the decision on the introduction of new transport tariffs.

"I think the Mayoralty would better cancel the decision. Of course, officials would be unpleased to reverse their decision; however, it would be better than further complication of the situation," David Sanasaryan has stated.
