Activists of "Karata" promise to go on mass hunger strike if Akhmednabiev's murder is not solved

On July 18, in Dagestan, the public organization "Karata" appealed to Ramazan Abdulatipov, Acting President of Dagestan, asking to engage investigators of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in solving the murder of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev. In case if the murder is not solved till September 5, the activists will go on an indefinite hunger strike. This was announced by the organization.

Let us remind you that in the morning of July 9, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent and the deputy editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper "Novoe Vremya", was shot dead by unidentified persons in the village of Semender of the Kirov District of Makhachkala. Prior to his murder, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev received threats. His name was mentioned in the "destruction list" printed on the leaflets distributed in September 2009 in Makhachkala. Anonymous authors of the leaflets promised to take revenge for militiamen and civilians. On January 11, unidentified persons committed an attempt on the journalist that failed.

"The Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) failed to institute the case on the fact of the attack on the journalist and failed to ensure the safety of his life. We ask you to engage in the investigation high-class investigators from the Investigating Committee of the Russian   Federation," states the appeal of the organization "Karata", a copy of which the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has.

The authors of the appeal state that in case if the murder of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev is not solved till September 5, 2013, the members of the organization will go on indefinite hunger strike. According to the authors' statement, the action might involve "500 or more persons".
