In Stavropol Territory, opponents criticize "Edinaya Rossiya" Party for its support of prohibiting propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships

The leaders of the opposition parties of the StavropolTerritory treat the campaign conducted by the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party in Stavropol in support of the prohibition of propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations adopted by the State Duma as an attempt to distract the public from the real problems.

Let us remind you that on July 2, the action of the "Edinaya Rossiya" Party took place in Stavropol in Castle Hill Square.

"One gets the impression that the ruling party is once again trying to divert the attention of the city residents from their real problems towards the issues that do not directly affect their lives," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Kirill Kuzmin, a member of the office of the Regional Branch of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party, the head of the MP group "Youth Initiative" at the Regional Legislative Assembly.

Vitaly Zubenko, Chairman of the Regional Branch of the "Yabloko" Party, treats an anti-gay picket as unnecessary action, the same like a gay parade.

"It is a dumb PR action that means: the main part of the society has a negative attitude towards gays, and we are together with the society," Vitaly Zubenko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Dmitry Pikalov, Assistant Professor of the Humanitarian Institute of the North-Caucasian Federal University (NCFU), believes that the adoption of the law prohibiting gay propaganda will have a little impact on the StavropolTerritory. In his opinion, the traditional patriarchal culture in Northern Caucasus is one of the causes of underdevelopment of LGBT-activism in the StavropolTerritory. "The fact that the issue is not acute for us is proved by the rally in support of the law that was attended, figuratively speaking, by 'three cripples'," Dmitry Pikalov says.
