In Stavropol Territory, experts are sceptical about project to establish Regional Public Chamber

In the Stavropol Territory, the next meeting of the Regional Legislative Assembly has unanimously adopted the Law "On the Public Chamber of the Stavropol Territory". The initiative of the authorities to establish the Regional Public Chamber was met sceptically by leaders of the public organizations and experts of the Stavropol Territory, who were interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

On June 27, the Law "On the Public Chamber of the Stavropol Territory" was adopted pursuant to the requirements of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the composition of which would be now formed through delegation of members of the regional chambers.

To be able to be represented in the federal Public Chamber, the Stavropol Territory should also have its own chamber. This told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Anatoly Tretyakov, the head of the information and analytical department of the regional government.

The explanatory note to the draft law states that the chamber will not be funded from the budget and that all members will work on a voluntary basis.

Mikhail Savostin, the leader of the human rights organization "Veche-MV" of the city of Mineralnye Vody, believes that instead of the Regional Public Chamber, the People's Council of the Stavropol Territory in compliance with Article 130 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation should be established.

Stanislav Shalamov, the leader of the Inter-University Student Congress of Stavropol, believes that the Regional Public Chamber will not be able to solve the existing problems of the society.
