Policemen release human rights defenders and journalist detained at entrance to Gimry

Today, after verification of the documents, the police released Elena Denisenko, the representative of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" in Dagestan, Magomed Shamilov, Chairman of the regional trade union of staff members of the law enforcement bodies, and one foreign journalist, who were detained in the Untsukul District of Dagestan.

Earlier, a source in the Untsukul District informed the "Caucasian Knot" that today, Elena Denisenko, the representative of the HRC "Memorial" in Dagestan, and foreign journalists were detained at the entrance to the Dagestani village of Gimry.

"At the checkpoint, we learned that the Untsukul District is still under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime, and we were not aware of that fact. We were informed that journalists and representatives of foreign states are not permitted to enter the CTO area. To check our documents, they brought us to the Untsukul ROVD (District Interior Division) and then let us go," Elena Denisenko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

A representative of the unit on duty of the Untsukul ROVD has acknowledged the detention of the media representative and human rights defenders for verification of their documents. The representative of the unit on duty has reported that the counterterrorist operation is still underway in the territory of the village of Gimry.
