In Tbilisi, defrauded housing investors demand to give them the housing they paid for

An action of protest with a demand to pay attention to the housing shareholders who were deceived by construction companies was held in Tbilisi.

There were about 80 protesters; the action lasted for about two hours and passed without incidents, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The protesters assert that they cannot get their already paid flats because of the actions of the construction companies "Centre Point" and "Dexus" and demand an investigation, punishment of those responsible and provision them with their housing paid for in full long ago.

Temur Pipiya, one of the organizers, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that a few years ago more than 6000 families across Georgia signed housing contracts with the "Centre Point"; however, the company failed to complete the construction and went bankrupt.

"After the bankruptcy, the 'Centre Point' transferred its powers to the 'Dexus'; however, the investors received neither money back, no finished houses. The 'Dexus' bosses said that we should add 100 US dollars for each square meter of the apartment, plus pay the state tax. In this case, they would complete the construction," said Pipiya.

The protesters were approached by the press secretary of the Ministry of Justice, who asked the organizer to enter the building and meet the officials of the Ministry and the Prosecutor's Office.

"I spoke with the investigator, who is engaged in our case, and with Irakli Mzhavanadze, and official of the Ministry of Justice. They both told me that an intensive investigation is underway; they just lack resources; a very small group holds the inquiry. They promised me that maximum in a month they would have particular results," Mr Pipiya has summed up.
