Mines and plants in Chiatura, Western Georgia, stopped work because of a strike

All the mines and plants stopped work because of a strike of miners and workers in Chiatura, Western Georgia, majority Deputy Malkaz Tsereteli reported today.

According to Tsereteli, the reason for the strike was non-fulfillment of part of the agreements achieved with “Georgian Manganese” company during the strike in autumn of 2012. According to the Deputy, “five mines and three plants” whose owner the company is are out. “The workers and miners demand to increase the term of vacation from 28 to 48 days, days-off on official holidays and in case of work injuries”, “Novosti-Georgia” quotes Tsereteli.

Tsereteli added that the miners did not demand wage rise at the moment. “All of them want to work but the company is planning staff reduction and structural changes. Exams are planned for them but the miners are not ready to take them for they need time for preparation”, the Deputy added.

He pointed out that eight miners were staying in the mine and refused to come out until their demands are granted, News.ge reports.
