North-Ossetian court starts studying materials of the case of Gabibulaeva and Akaeva

Today, the Prigorodny District Court of North Ossetia has started examining the prosecutor's evidence in the criminal case of two women-residents of Dagestan Zalina Gabibulaeva and Zaira Akaeva, in whose car explosives were found.

On April 29, 2012, they were detained at the traffic police checkpoint in North Ossetia. During the inspection of their car an improvised explosive device (IED) was found weighing 130 grams of TNT (trotyl) equivalent with a detonator. The trial of Gabibulaeva and Akaeva began on January 16.

The prosecutor said that the analysis of the gauze swabs from the hands of Gabibulaeva and Akaeva showed traces of explosive matter.

The examined IED consisted of a tin can stuffed with trotyl.

"Gabibulaeva is engaged in selling foodstuffs in Makhachkala; she rears four children and is the widow of Magomed Gabibulaev, a member of the extremist underground, neutralized in November 2010. She is characterized as a supporter of the ideas of religious extremism," the prosecutor read his presentation.

Akaeva, who works in a store in Makhachkala, was earlier convicted conditionally; she is a follower of non-traditional Islam.

The defendants said they were not ready to testify.
