Residents of apartment block in Sochi may lose basic amenities by court

A Sochi court has ruled, based on the suit lodged by the city administration, to demolish a toilet and a woodshed owned by residents of an apartment block with partial amenities in Akatsij Street. According to the administration, the toilet and the shed at the house that is not connected to a central sewer and with stove heating are unauthorized structures.

The tenants must fulfil the court ruling by June 20. Currently, 13 families live here, or about 40 people, including 13 children. The tenants do not agree with the ruling and draw documents for appeal.

"These facilities were built in 1951 together with the house, not as illegal, but as utilities, as the house has no amenities inside," one of tenants explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Residents told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that their life in the house is unbearable without the court ruling. As a result of Olympic construction, their house is now surrounded by the railway and the federal highway M-27 Dzhubga-Sochi, which is on the list of Olympic facilities. The designing and construction of the highway are performed by the Directorate for Construction and Reconstruction of Highways of Black Sea Coast of the Federal Road Agency" – the DSD "Chernomorye".

In September 2012, residents of the house turned to a few instances with their complaints about the inadmissibility of construction work in dangerous proximity to their house, demanding to resettle them if the works would be continued. However, their demands were ignored.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported about facts of alienation of land for the Olympic construction, which, in the opinion of Sochi residents, violated their rights, as well as about cases of people's evictions without providing other housing or compensations.
