Karachay-Cherkessia: trial on the death of tourist in "Zorb" postponed till June 17

The court hearing on the case of a tourist's death in the attraction named "Zorb" in Dombai has been rescheduled for June 17 due to the illness of the defendant's advocate, said Arthur Urusov, the spokesman of the Karachay District Court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 3 two tourists fell into the gorge while being inside an inflatable ball named "Zorb"; one of them – Denis Burakov – died, and the other – Vladimir Scherbov received traumas. Since January 11, Ravil Chekunov, suspected of organizing the attraction and accused under the article of "provision of services that do not meet safety requirements and that resulted in a human death" of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is kept under home arrest. On April 4, the case went to the court.

On Tuesday, the Karachay District Court was to continue questioning the witnesses. In total, the prosecution party has 22 witnesses, said a source from the republic's Prosecutor's Office: "They are friends of the deceased and local people who were near the scene of the tragedy."

Let us remind you that the court had refused to consider Ravil Chekunov's case in a special order. The defendant pled guilty and asked to consider his case under this procedure; however, the suffered party was against, as it was earlier reported by Alibek Botashev, the spokesman of the Supreme Court of the republic. Chekunov has fully admitted his guilt, confirmed by one of his friends, who asked not to be named.

"He asked to consider his case under a special order; he fully admits his guilt and is ready to be punished. It's unclear why the other party has rejected it," the friend told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
