In Azerbaijan, active user of social networks arrested

Rashad Agaaddin, an active user of social networks, was detained and arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs. Rashad Agaaddin himself believes that he is being prosecuted for criticizing the authorities of Azerbaijan. This was reported by his advocate Rovshan Shiraliev.

On May 9, Rashad Agaaddin was detained in Baku near the metro station "20th of January". According to the investigators' information, at the detention, nine grams of heroin were seized from the back pocket of his trousers. On May 10, the Narimanov District Court of Baku arrested him for three months.

In case if his guilt is proved, Rashad Agaaddin will face imprisonment of up to 12 years with confiscation of property. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by advocate Shiraliev who joined the defence of Rashad Agaaddin on May 13. The advocate has already twice met his client.

According to his report, Rashad Agaaddin denies the charge filed and says that he is being prosecuted for political reasons on his page on the social network "Facebook", he has expressed strong criticism of the authorities of the country, wrote articles and set status on the themes of religion, freedom, and justice.

Advocate Rovsan Shiraliev has reported that the decision on arrest will be challenged at the Baku Court of Appeal.
