In Karachay-Cherkessia, about 100 persons take part in "Adyghe Djegu" on Day of Circassian Flag

In Cherkessk, about 100 persons took part in the dance event "Adyghe Djegu", dedicated to the Day of Circassian Flag, which is celebrated today.

Residents of Cherkessk and Circassian communities gathered at the stele of Friendship in the capital of the republic, where the dance event "Adyghe Djegu" was held starting from 06:00 p.m. till 08:00 p.m. In general, the participants were representatives of the Circassian youth. Some of them were holding Circassian flags. Musical accompaniment was provided by professional musicians from the aul (village) of Beslenei. The participants of the dance event have performed several national dances in accordance with the tradition of the dance event "Djegu".

"Today is the Day of Circassian Flag. By your presence at the event, you show that the Circassian Flag unites all of us. 12 stars on the Flag represent 12 Circassian tribes. We should stick together like stars on the Flag," Magomed Boranukov, the organizer of the event, said prior to the beginning of the dance event.

Circassian activist and blogger Rustam Lakhov, a participant of the event, has stated that the Circassian Flag is a symbol of the nation.

"I do not know what can be more valuable for a Circassian than the Circassian Flag. For me, the honour and the Flag mean the same. I can die both for the honour and for the Flag. While there is the Flag, there is the nation. Therefore, we should respect and protect it," Rustam Lakhov has emphasized.

Today, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Day of Circassian Flag was also marked in Kabardino-Balkaria. Participants of the automobile rally dedicated to the holiday drove in several dozen cars across a number of districts of the republic.

For the first time, the Day of Circassian Flag was celebrated in 2010.
