Verdict on attempt to blow up "Sapsan" comes into force

On March 27, the Russia's Supreme Court upheld the verdict on the case dealing with preparation to blow up the high-speed passenger train "Sapsan", undertaken in the summer of 2011, dismissing the cassation complaint lodged by the four convicts sentenced to prison terms from 15 to 18 years.

According to the prosecution, the organizer of the planned terror act was Islam Khamzhuev from Kabardino-Balkaria. The figurants in the case were the members of the "Imarat Kavkaz" Islam Khamzhuev, Fail Nevlyutov, Mansur Edilbiev and Mansur Umaev.

According to the decision of the Moscow City Court of December 10, 2012, Islam Khamzhuev sentenced to 18 years in prison, Fail Nevlyutov, a native of Mordovia, to 15 years, and the Chechens from Moscow Mansur Edilbiev and Mansur Umaev – to 16 and 17 years in prison respectively. The defence appealed against the verdict.

In their complaint the convicts insisted on leniency and exclusion from the indictment of several points, including "terrorism", the RIA "Novosti" reports.

The convicts reminded that they had voluntarily refused from their intended crime and threw away their explosive device, the RAPSI reports.
